Rado is a Swiss luxury watch brand renowned for its bold design philosophy and groundbreaking use of innovative materials. Established in Lengnau, Switzerland, Rado has built a global reputation for creating timepieces that combine durability, comfort, and contemporary aesthetics. The brand revolutionized the industry in 1962 with the DiaStar, the world’s first scratch-resistant watch, marking the beginning of its long legacy in material innovation. Over the decades, Rado has become synonymous with high-tech ceramics, sapphire crystal, and sleek minimalist forms, earning recognition as the “Master of Materials.” Rado’s design approach blends Swiss precision with a modern, forward-looking vision, often collaborating with designers and participating in global design events. Its collections—such as the Captain Cook, True Square, and Centrix—highlight the brand’s ability to merge heritage with cutting-edge technology. Today, Rado stands as a leader in contemporary Swiss watchmaking, admired worldwide for innovation, style, and enduring quality.
Rado began in 1917 when three Swiss brothers—Fritz, Ernst,
and Werner Schlup—founded Schlup & Co. in Lengnau, Switzerland. Working
from their family home, they started as movement makers before evolving into a
full-fledged watch manufacturer. Their early vision was rooted in precision,
reliability, and a belief that Swiss craftsmanship could reach global
audiences. By the 1950s, they introduced the Rado name, marking a bold
transition from a small workshop to a brand with a clear identity. The Schlup
brothers were forward-thinking innovators who embraced new materials, efficient
production methods, and design simplicity. Their values paved the way for
Rado’s later breakthroughs, including the world’s first scratch-resistant
watch. Their legacy continues as the foundation of Rado’s creative and
technical spirit.
Adrian Bosshard, the current CEO of Rado, brings decades of experience from within the Swatch Group and a reputation for disciplined leadership. Before joining Rado in 2020, he successfully led Certina and Union Glashütte, strengthening both brands through clear strategy and modern product direction. A former professional motorcycle racer, Bosshard blends competitive drive with deep industry insight. At Rado, he champions innovation in materials, design, and global market presence while preserving the brand’s heritage of Swiss precision. Under his leadership, Rado continues to expand its ceramic expertise and reinforce its position as a forward-thinking, design-focused watchmaker.
